BAE Systems, Boeing et Lockheed Martin :
La réponse à la RFI, qui a été publiée par l’Agence d’acquisition, de technologie et de logistique du JMOD, décrit les capacités techniques dans un éventail de domaines clés, que BAE Systems peut offrir pour soutenir le développement du programme F-X. L’Agence japonaise d’acquisition, de technologie et de logistique (ATLA) a indiqué que la RFI avait été publié le 16 septembre. Sept sociétés ont montré l’intérêt initial, mais seulement trois ont répondu, soit BAE, Boeing et Lockheed Martin. « Nous croyons fermement que nous pouvons ajouter une valeur significative au programme F-X. Nous sommes impatients de poursuivre nos discussions et nous sommes honorés d’avoir l’occasion de collaborer avec le Japon à ce programme », a déclaré Andy Latham, directeur de campagne pour le Japon et pour l’activité Air de BAE Systems.
MHI à la base du développement du futur F-3 :
Quelle que soit la décision du gouvernement japonais, MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) dirigera la conception pour rechercher la meilleure configuration du futur chasseur afin de répondre le plus précisément possible au cahier des charges. Si, contrairement à ce qui a été affirmé par le passé, le développement ne se fera pas sans partenariat étranger pour des raisons de coûts, le socle sera assuré par l'industrie japonaise.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) is expected to receive technical assistance from Lockheed Martin Corp. to develop a new fighter jet for the Air Self-Defense Force, government and ruling coalition officials said Friday.
Lockheed Martin, the maker of the F-35 stealth jet, is likely to join the fighter project as a subcontractor for the Japanese company, the officials said.
Specifically, the U.S. defense contractor is expected to provide MHI with technical assistance to do with an integrated radar and missile system as well as improving the plane’s mobility and stealth, the officials said.
The new fighter, which is known as the F-3 or F-X and is expected to cost around $40 billion (about ¥4.16 trillion), will replace Japan’s F-2, which was jointly developed by MHI and Lockheed more than two decades ago. The Defense Ministry plans to start deploying the new jet in 2035, when it begins to retire F-2s.
The ministry has asked for ¥77.2 billion in budget outlays for the project for fiscal 2021, which begins in April.
Japan has said it will announce the names of foreign companies invited to join the project before the end of the year.
Firms that have expressed interest in participating include F-18 Super Hornet builder Boeing Co. and Northrop Grumman Corp. from the United States, as well as Britain’s BAE Systems PLC and Rolls Royce Holdings PLC.

The main contractor will be Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. IHI Corporation will develop the engine, Subaru and Kawasaki Heavy Industries will build the airframe, Mitsubishi Electric will take the electronic warfare system portion while Toshiba, Fujitsu and NEC will design the avionics and radar.

The government is in the final stage of negotiations to commission IHI Corp. and British Rolls-Royce PLC to codevelop an engine for the Air Self-Defense Force’s next-generation fighter jet.
The government wants to utilize the technologies of Japan, Britain and the United States in the development of the jet, which will succeed the F-2 fighter. U.S. Lockheed Martin Corp. has already been selected to work on the jets’ stealth technology.
The next-generation fighters are expected to be introduced in the mid-2030s when the retirement of F-2 fighters begins.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., the main developer in charge of the new jet’s airframe design and system development, is receiving technological support from Lockheed, developer of the cutting-edge F-35 stealth fighter.
The engine of the ASDF’s new fighter will be developed by IHI, which developed the engine for the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s P-1 maritime patrol aircraft. But the challenge was to build a framework for international cooperation to cut development costs and improve its capabilities.
Rolls-Royce, whose engines are installed in the MSDF’s P-3C patrol aircraft, has a good reputation in the Japanese government.
Cooperation between Japan and Britain — which developed the next-generation combat aircraft Tempest — would be expected to benefit both sides if realized. Negotiations among high-ranking officials are currently underway.
The Defense Ministry is aiming to develop a prototype of the next-generation fighters in the mid-2020s and plans to include design costs for the engine and airframe in the budget estimate for fiscal 2022. Development costs alone are expected to exceed ¥1 trillion.
The ASDF’s main fleet will comprise the next-generation jets, F-35s and F-15s, according to forecasts.
Including stealth-equipped fifth-generation fighters and fourth-generation jets such as the F-15, Japan currently has 313 fighter jets, far fewer than China, which has 1,146.
“We have no choice but to improve standards,” a senior defense ministry official said.

Le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que l'on reste dans l'inconstance chez les Japonais pour ce qui est des partenariats sur ce programme...

Pour le titre, j'ai fait une modif permettant de concilier les "anciens" et les "modernes"
